Sanchez Palmer is designing a new building at the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) located near the intersection of Mississippi Avenue and Southern Avenue in Southeast Washington, DC. The existing community center is run by the non profit organization Building Bridges Across the River (BBAR). Its mission is to improve the quality of life for children and adults who reside east of the Anacostia River and utilizes at THEARC a unique collaboration of partner organizations to provide access to high quality educational, health, cultural, recreation, and social welfare programs. Building on the success of the current community center, the new building at THEARC will expand existing programs and offer space for new partner organizations. Planned for the new building are a pediatric health clinic, a school for boys, a preschool, office space for non-profit organizations, a theater lab, and art education studio.
