Fairlington Presbyterian Church

Fairlington Presbyterian Church is situated in an area of the city that has seen a significant increase in growth and development in recent years resulting in a rethinking about the potential of their expansive and centrally located property. When their church was built the neighborhood was suburban in design and density, but since then the church finds itself in an increasingly urban neighborhood with an urgent need for affordable housing.

In conjunction with a separate project to redevelop a portion of the church’s property with new affordable housing the church planned a renovation of its own facilities. An initial Facility Conditions Assessment and Space Use Analysis quantified the physical state of the facilities and examined where the potential for renovations & reconfiguration of existing spaces could better serve both current and projected program needs. Subsequent site masterplanning guided the development of future projects, and the design for building addition and renovations will address program & ADA/accessibility needs and deferred maintenance.
